The village
Aita El Foukhar
locates in Bekaa Valley, Rachaya region, Lebanon. It is
surrounded by high mountains from two main sides, which reach at
some poin t
1400 m above sea level. Meanwhile the village itself is almost
1250 m above sea level. The village name combines two words: “Aita”
means, after the inhabitant of the village, "to call", and El-Foukhar
means pottery. Together they refer to a "pottery production
center".
The
mountain to the north of the village is more steep and of less useful
for agriculture activities. To the south the mountain slopes gently
toward the valley. The advantage of this natural phenomenon is in the
establishment of several agriculture terraces. People cultivated several
products such as wheat, blueberry, fig, apple, grape, and olive.
Water sources are
available mainly from springs: such as Ain el-Arish. Till the present
the inhabitants of the village partially depend on this spring as source
of water. Water and nice environment would be attractive reasons for the
settlement at the village in early A.C. periods.
